Storm Austen disruption at Bristol Airport has widened on Friday afternoon, with Aurigny cancelling its service to Guernsey and several other flights running late, beyond the Loganair Jersey cancellations already reported earlier in the day.

Bristol Airport's own website confirms the airport remains open but says "some flights are affected" and advises all customers to check with their airlines for the latest flight information before travelling, as the first named storm of the 2026/27 season moves through the South West.

According to the Somerset County Gazette, which cites the airport's departures information, the Aurigny flight to Guernsey was cancelled this afternoon, adding to the Loganair cancellations to and from Jersey confirmed earlier on Friday. The newspaper also reports delays to flights serving Toulouse, Menorca and the Isle of Man.

Bristol Airport's live arrivals board on Friday afternoon showed knock-on delays building through the day, including an easyJet arrival from the Isle of Man running around 10 minutes late, a TUI flight from Tenerife estimated nearly two hours behind schedule, and further delays affecting arrivals from Palma and Newcastle.

The disruption on the Channel Islands route is linked to conditions at the other end: Guernsey Airport itself was closed through Friday morning as winds exceeded safe operating limits, according to Guernsey news site Bailiwick Express, with flights there not resuming until around midday. Guernsey Ports said the closure reflected an agreed plan between the airport, airlines and other stakeholders to keep passengers and staff safe while minimising disruption.

The Met Office's yellow weather warning for wind remains in force for Bristol and North Somerset until 5pm on Friday, with forecasters warning of gusts of 50 to 60mph widely and a chance of 70mph or more in exposed parts of the South West. A more serious amber warning continues to cover Cornwall, the Isles of Scilly and parts of West Devon.

Bristol Airport has not announced any blanket suspension of flights, and the confirmed disruption remains limited to specific routes rather than affecting the whole schedule. However, passengers travelling on Friday, especially on Channel Islands, European or coastal UK routes, should check their flight status directly with their airline before setting off, and allow extra time if picking up or dropping off passengers.
