A serious crash shut the A38 near Bristol Airport for several hours on Saturday 29 August, and Bristol Airport has told passengers to allow extra travel time on one of the main routes to the terminal.
Avon and Somerset Police said emergency services were called to a serious collision on the A38 Bristol Road at Brent Knoll, close to junction 22 of the M5, on Saturday morning. The road was closed in both directions between the Edithmead roundabout and the Fox and Goose pub, just north of the B3140 roundabout, according to the BBC.
The closure blocked a direct route used by drivers heading to Bristol Airport from the M5 and North Somerset. Bristol Airport posted its own traffic alert confirming the A38 northbound was shut near junction 22 and warning passengers to expect delays on the approach roads.
The Weston Mercury reported that traffic heading north on the A38 after leaving the motorway was being diverted via Highbridge and Burnham-on-Sea. Police advised motorists travelling to and from the airport to avoid the area and seek alternative routes while the scene was cleared.
The BBC reported that police expected the road to remain closed until at least midday, roughly six hours after the collision was first reported. As of shortly after midday, passengers commenting on the airport's own social media post said the road was still shut, with no update yet showing on traffic maps.
No details on injuries or the exact cause of the collision had been released by police at the time of publication.
