Bristol Airport will get its first-ever direct flights to Frankfurt from May 2027, after Discover Airlines announced on 27 August that it is adding Bristol to its route network for the first time.
Discover Airlines, the Lufthansa Group's leisure carrier, said in an official press release that it will operate the twice-weekly service on Mondays and Thursdays using an Airbus A320, with a flight time of around two hours. Bristol is one of three new UK and Ireland-area destinations the airline is adding for summer 2027, alongside Glasgow and Inverness, making it the first time England and Scotland have featured in Discover Airlines' schedule.
"With Bristol, we're adding our first destination in England to our portfolio," said Marco Gotz, chief commercial officer at Discover Airlines. "The new Discover Airlines route is the only nonstop connection from Frankfurt and connects the South West of England with Germany during summer 2027, making travel to this region even more convenient."
Bristol Airport confirmed the route will target both business and leisure travellers, and said passengers will be able to connect onward from Frankfurt to more than 150 destinations worldwide through the wider Lufthansa Group network, according to trade title Travel Weekly. Bristol Live, which also confirmed the announcement, reported the flights go on sale for travel starting May 2027.
Tourism body Visit West welcomed the route.
