Bristol Airport is a Skytrax-certified 3-Star Regional Airport, scored 57% for customer satisfaction in Which?'s 2026 UK airport survey, and rated "Bad" at 1.3 out of 5 on Trustpilot from over 1,200 reviews. Ratings are consistently below the UK average, driven mainly by parking costs, a shortage of seating and long security queues at peak times. Checked August 2026.

Overall rating
Bristol Airport holds a Skytrax 3-Star Regional Airport certification, the tier Skytrax uses for airports serving mainly short-haul leisure routes with a smaller portfolio of business destinations. Skytrax's own assessment notes limited public transport connectivity and a £3 terminal drop-off charge as factors that shape the rating.
In Which?'s annual UK airport survey, published June 2026 from responses gathered in a survey of 5,789 members and members of the public covering 7,975 airport visits, Bristol scored a customer satisfaction rating of 57%. That places it in the middle of the pack among the 28 UK airports Which? tracked: well behind leaders such as Exeter (80%) and Liverpool John Lennon (78%), roughly level with Birmingham and Heathrow's Terminal 2, and ahead of Manchester and Luton.
On Trustpilot, Bristol Airport is rated "Bad" at 1.3 out of 5 from more than 1,200 reviews, with the large majority of those one star. Trustpilot scores for airports nearly always run far lower than survey-based scores like Which?'s, because people are more likely to leave a review after a bad experience than a routine one, so treat the two figures as measuring different things rather than contradicting each other.
A separate analysis by Jet Finder, which scraped and scored 21,908 Google Maps reviews across the UK's 20 busiest airports between January 2025 and April 2026, put Bristol's average Google rating at 3.23 out of 5 from 1,880 reviews, and found that 52.5% of Bristol's text reviews mentioned a parking or transport complaint, by far the highest rate of any UK airport in the study.
What the category scores show
Which?'s survey breaks satisfaction down by category. For Bristol, seating came out as the weakest area, with shops, food outlets and the queue for dropping bags also scoring poorly. Staff, check-in queues and toilets scored closer to the middle of Which?'s scale. This lines up with what Skytrax's own write-up flags: a single terminal built for far fewer passengers than currently use it, which gets crowded at weekends and in peak summer.
Bristol Airport is roughly midway through a construction programme intended to address exactly these complaints. A two-storey terminal extension is under way, aimed at adding circulation space, more seating, nearly double the retail and food outlets, and extra baggage reclaim capacity. Until that finishes, expect the current seating and crowding issues to continue, especially in the early morning departures bank.
What travellers praise
Reviews that are positive tend to mention:
- Quick processing once through security, particularly for passengers who arrive by bus rather than car.
- A workable range of short-haul leisure routes for a regional airport of its size.
- Individual staff members being helpful, even where reviewers rate the overall experience poorly.
- A compact single terminal that, crowding aside, is easy to navigate without long walks between check-in and gate.
Common complaints
The recurring themes across Skytrax, Trustpilot and Which? reviews are consistent:
- Parking and drop-off costs. The £3 drop-off charge at the terminal frontage and the cost of forecourt parking are the single most-mentioned complaint, and the driver behind Bristol's unusually high transport-complaint rate in the Jet Finder study. See our guide to avoiding Bristol Airport drop-off charges for the free alternatives.
- Not enough seating. With 40 gates but comparatively little seating, finding somewhere to sit before an early flight is a frequent gripe, especially in the current construction phase.
- Security queues at peak times. Weekend mornings and school-holiday peaks see the longest waits; see our guide on how long security takes at Bristol Airport for typical wait times.
- Limited public transport. Bristol Airport has no rail link, and coach and bus services, while reasonably frequent via the new Public Transport Interchange, are a genuine constraint for passengers without a car.
- One taxi operator on the terminal frontage. Only one licensed taxi firm may pick up directly outside the terminal, which some reviewers read as limiting choice; see Uber vs taxi at Bristol Airport for the alternatives and how to book ahead.
How it compares to other UK airports
Among the airports Which? surveyed, Bristol's 57% score sits close to Birmingham, Aberdeen, Gatwick North and Heathrow's Terminal 2, all in the high-50s. It scores well above the bottom of the table (Manchester Terminal 3 on 43%, Luton on 51%) but far below the smaller regional leaders Exeter and Liverpool John Lennon, both of which handle a fraction of Bristol's passenger numbers and are praised for shorter queues. The Jet Finder analysis found Bristol had the highest rate of parking and transport complaints of any UK airport studied, which is the clearest single differentiator between Bristol and airports that score better, most of which have a direct rail link or free short-stay drop-off.
Frequently asked questions
Is Bristol Airport a good airport? Reviews are mixed to negative. It holds a Skytrax 3-Star Regional certification and scored 57% in Which?'s 2026 survey, roughly mid-table for UK airports, but Trustpilot rates it "Bad" at 1.3/5 and it has the highest rate of parking-related complaints of any UK airport in a 2026 Jet Finder analysis of Google reviews.
What do people complain about most at Bristol Airport? Parking and drop-off costs, a lack of seating, security queues at peak times, and limited public transport, since there is no direct rail link to the airport.
Is Bristol Airport getting better? The airport is partway through a £30m terminal extension and a new Public Transport Interchange aimed at adding seating, shops and capacity; see our Bristol Airport 2026 expansion guide for details.
How does Bristol Airport compare to Heathrow? Which?'s 2026 survey scored Bristol at 57%, close to Heathrow's Terminal 2 (57%) and slightly ahead of Heathrow Terminals 3 and 4. Where do these ratings come from? Skytrax for the Star certification, Which? for the customer satisfaction survey, Trustpilot for consumer reviews, and Jet Finder for the Google Maps review analysis. All figures checked August 2026.
