Short Stay suits a wait of a few hours, a pick-up, or a trip of one to three days; Mid Stay is built for trips of eight days or more where you want to keep your own keys rather than hand the car over. Both sit roughly 8-15 minutes' walk from the terminal, but they're priced for very different lengths of stay, so picking the wrong one can mean paying far more than you need to. Prices checked against Bristol Airport's own published gate price list, re-verified October 2026.
Short Stay vs Mid Stay at a glance
| Short Stay | Mid Stay | |
|---|---|---|
| Best for | A wait of a few hours, or trips of 1-3 days | Trips of 8 days or more |
| Gate price | From £8.50 for 15 minutes | £55 for 0-24 hours |
| Walk to terminal | 8-10 minutes | 8-15 minutes |
| Keys | You keep them, self-park | You keep them, self-park |
Both are self-park, drive-yourself car parks, so neither involves handing your keys to a valet the way Meet & Greet does. The difference is purely about how the pricing is structured for short waits versus long trips.
When Short Stay makes sense
Short Stay is priced from £8.50 for the first 15 minutes, which makes it the right choice if you're:
- Picking someone up and need to park rather than use the free Waiting Zone
- Staying away for only a day or two
- Not sure exactly how long you'll be, since it's priced flexibly by the hour rather than a flat daily rate
For a stay of a week or more, Short Stay's hourly-style pricing adds up fast compared with Mid Stay or Silver Zone's flat daily rates, so it stops being the cheaper option once your trip runs much past a couple of days.
When Mid Stay makes sense
Mid Stay opened as the car park for longer trips where you still want to self-park and keep your own keys, rather than use the valet-style Meet & Greet service or the park-and-ride Silver Zone shuttle. At £55 for 0-24 hours on the gate rate, it's priced for travellers away 8 days or more, where the flat long-stay rate works out cheaper per day than Short Stay's hourly structure.
It sits 8-15 minutes' walk from the terminal, a little further than Short Stay in some cases, which is the trade-off for the longer-stay pricing.
What about Silver Zone or Meet & Greet instead?
If you're away for 3 days or more but don't mind a free shuttle ride rather than walking, Silver Zone is Bristol Airport's cheapest option, with a 24-hour shuttle running every 15 minutes. If you'd rather not walk or wait for a shuttle at all, Meet & Greet is a valet service where you're dropped right at the terminal and an attendant parks the car for you, for a premium over self-parking. See our full Bristol Airport car parks compared guide for all seven options side by side, or the parking page for live pricing.
Does pre-booking change the price?
Yes. The figures above are Bristol Airport's gate (turn-up-and-pay) prices. The airport's own guidance is that booking online ahead of your trip is typically cheaper than paying at the gate, so check the live pre-booked rate for your exact dates before you travel rather than assuming the gate price is what you'll pay.
